Located in Norfolk, Virginia, Get Well Soon is a sanctuary focused on self-care and personal wellness.  Get Well Soon will be serving the residents of Coastal Virginia by offering services that include guided meditations, massages, facials, an infrared sauna, social activities and more!  This unique concept for the area is intended to provide guests with a “one stop shop” for quality beauty, wellness and “feel good” services. Together with our client, we have developed a design that will provide a relaxing, fresh and welcoming space to accommodate the multitude of available services.

One of our challenges with the design is figuring out how to use the physical environment to help facilitate the guest’s transition from the daily stresses to the peaceful, tranquil and spiritual moments they will soon be experiencing. The space we have to work with is long and linear. From a low ceiling space at the entrance, we travel to the center area that houses a lovely courtyard space and transitions into a two-story high ceiling as you move further to the back of the space. We proposed a framework concept that constructs a sequence of experiences that begin with “Relaxing” and transitions to “Unwinding” and then ending with “Uplifting”.

Before & After

A part of the front low ceiling section is used as the reception area, lounge, and retail space. With all the walls, ceiling, and built-ins all painted in GWS’s brand color: mint green. The simple yet visually strong setting welcome the guests, indicating that they have stepped into a different space, and help them to relax.

Beyond the mint green space, there are four treatment rooms. Two of them have low ceilings and the other two are located under the high ceilings. The design for this space is intended to take advantage of the natural light from the courtyard area and to form a connection with nature and help customers to “dissolve” physically and mentally. To provide a waiting area, a series of low benches with planter boxes are placed along the corridor outside of the treatment rooms. All the planter boxes are facing the doors of treatment rooms. Together with the wood slat screen and ceilings, they define the entry to the treatment rooms and provide a sense of privacy.

Walking through this flowing space full of plants and natural lights, the guests arrive at the two story yoga-meditation space, which the surrounding floor to ceiling windows bring an abundance of natural light.
