At the heart of the transformation was the atrium, previously a dark and unwelcoming space that failed to make a positive first impression. The installation of a new skylight became a game-changer, flooding the area with natural light. Complementing this, updated and additional artificial lighting fixtures were strategically placed to ensure a bright, inviting atmosphere at all hours.
The central area of the atrium underwent a dramatic makeover, evolving into a common seating area directly beneath the new skylight. Clever design choices, such as carefully selected carpet patterns and wall sconces, create an outdoor ambiance within the indoor space. This reimagined area now serves as a welcoming gathering spot for residents, encouraging community interaction and providing a pleasant space for relaxation.
During the demolition phase, an unexpected discovery added a layer of historical charm to the project. The original glass partition surrounding the foyer was uncovered and subsequently restored, adding character and a touch of the building's past to the lobby area. This find perfectly aligned with the project's goal of honoring the structure's history while updating it for modern use.
Further expanding the amenity offerings, the previous office space underwent a transformation into a common area for tenants. The renovation highlighted existing architectural features, including a beautiful historic fireplace and refinished cedar panel walls. These elements now serve as focal points in a space designed for community gatherings and individual enjoyment.
This renovation brings new life to the Old Towne Apartments, creating a more inviting, comfortable, and functional living environment that honors the building’s unique heritage.
