When it comes to design, there is no such thing as a project that is too small. Design density can not be defined just based on square footage. We enjoyed the renovation of the master suite in a Condo located in downtown Norfolk. The existing suite has a very large bedroom and a relatively small bathroom with a walk-in closet. With the current layout, the wife has to use the hall bathroom and turns one of the bedrooms into her closet. The goal of the renovation has two levels. On the functional level, the goal is to reconfigure the three functions of the suite and create a larger bathroom and walk-in closet, so the wife can “move” back into the suite. On an aesthetic level, the client wants to have a spa-like experience in the bathroom and openness in the suite.
Together with the client, we created a unique solution. An island integrates a spacious two-sink vanity on the bathroom side and a TV niche on the bedroom side becomes the centerpiece of the suite, and create a loop from bathroom to bedroom without any doors. A wet room is created with double showers and possibly a freestanding tub in the middle.

Before & After

Nicole & James
"We recently had our visioning workshop with GARC to completely reconfigure our oversized master bedroom and undersized master bath and closet. After measuring everything, and sitting down with us to address our wants/needs, they created something neither of us could have imagined. They increased the footprint of the master bath, opening it up, making it more functional and efficient, with good flow between the bedroom and attached closet which nearly tripled in size. Their design will turn our sad situation of a bathroom into a space we'll both enjoy for years to come. We look forward to working with them throughout this project."
